Haley, Guerra Making Presence Felt in POWER Lineup

By Jordan Loperena

Palm Springs, CA – On Monday, May 31st, the Palm Springs POWER hosted an open tryout at Palm Springs Stadium to add to an already star-studded roster for the upcoming season. Amongst the four players selected that day were infielders Zack Haley and Nathaniel Guerra.

Well, it didn’t take long for these two products of Monday’s open tryout to make their presence felt in the POWER lineup. After this weekend’s three-game sweep of the Casa Grande Cotton Kings, Guerra currently leads the team in batting average at .571 and Haley is tied for third on the team in the same category, hitting .400.

Haley is tied in the lead with teammate Brett Christopher for runs scored with four and is tied for second on the team with 2 RBI’s. Haley also leads the POWER in slugging percentage at .600 and right behind him is, you guessed it, Nathaniel Guerra at .571.

Haley, a 5’9”, 160 lb. second baseman, last attended Yavapai College where he was an Academic All-American with a 3.77 GPA. The Prescott, Arizona native is a Criminal Justice major and will be transferring as a junior to Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia this fall.

Guerra is a 5’7”, 175 lb. infielder with experience at second and third base. He attends Mount San Jacinto College. Currently residing in Moreno Valley, California, Guerra played his high school ball at Vista del Lago.

The POWER (3-0) return to action Tuesday night at Palm Springs Stadium when they take on the Trombly Thunder. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM and the gates open up at 6:00 PM. Tuesday night also marks the return of the POWER’s annual $1.00 draft beer night promotion, which will continue every Tuesday for the rest of the season.
