POWER Win on Opening Night

June 4, 2011

And it’s here. Thin Lizzy’s The Boys Are Back in Town blared over the PA system last night as the POWER stretched and jogged and swung and threw and ran and slid and won. Behind 5 shutout innings from Palm Desert native Nick Baker, the POWER slaughtered the Cotton Kings 7-0. Baker was relieved by Ryan Santhon in the 6th and he recorded the final 12 outs, 9 of them Ks. The POWER knocked in 7 runs, with one a pop coming from Ryan Jones, Donald Glover, and Marcus Romero, two from Curtis Gomez (one via a base on balls), and two off a Justin Cureton single in the 8th.

Outfielder and 2nd year POWER player Marcus Romero was stoked about last night’s impressive attendance numbers. When asked whether it felt like last season, Romero noted “this time it was just a little bit better. I think we had a little more fans than last year, so it was fun to play in front of them.”

Thanks to all you fans who came out and made the season’s first night a special one, and for the rest of you, we hope to see you out there tonight or somewhere soon down the road.
